Douglas Martin Leathers

Douglas M. Leathers, 60, of Sylvania, OH, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was born February 26, 1957, in Stillwater, OK, to Noel and MaryLou (Wilson) Leathers.

Doug proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp.

He received both his bachelors and masters degree from the University of Akron.  His adult life was centered around academia, he spoke Japanese fluently, taught Japanese history, and tutored students. In his spare time, Douglas was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports.

He is survived by his loving family; mother, Mary Louvisa  Schaetzke; sisters, Stacie (Maze) Burgess; Karen (Harold) Stevens; Shelley (John) Austin; brothers, Philip (Cheryl) Leathers; Mathew (Jackie) Leathers, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Doug’s father Noel Leathers and stepfather Howard Schaetzke preceded him in death.

A Graveside service will be held at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, OH, on Thursday January 18, 2018 at 11am.

The family suggests tributes in the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
