Jim was a patient of mine. He volunteered in the surgical waiting area at Flower Hospital. We talked quite often and we became friends. He was an amazing man, had such energy, was very spiritual, intelligent, and he fought his disease with dignity and determination. I am sorry I will not be able to attend his memorial service today. I will miss him.

Jim and my father, Don Schafer, worked together at Flower Hospital. They were good buddies in a friendship formed in their later years. Jim was a gentle, loving friend with a generous heart.
