Dorthy Eleanor Gratop, 95, was received into the arms of her Lord on Thursday, August 31, 2017.  Born on July 10, 1922, she was the daughter of Charles Paul Dobrik and Catherine (Bojarski) Dobrik.

Dorthy attended Waite High School where she was a member of the Home Economics Club; she got a head start perfecting her flair as a top-notch homemaker and a gourmet cook.  At Waite she met the love of her life, Don, and they were married November 29, 1941.  While rearing two boys, she found time to become a nurse and was in high demand for private duty care.  God was a guiding light throughout her life.  Once living in the south end, she and Don joined St. Joan of Arc Parish where Dorthy attended mass daily and served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister.  She and Don traveled to all fifty states, the Caribbean, Mexico, South America and several European countries.  Dorthy loved to play cards, entertain, garden, relax in the sun, dance, bake cookies and pies.  Fondly addressed as Ma and Granny, her loving demeanor will be cherished.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don, beloved son, John, and four sisters-Joan Dobrik, Maye Debien, Virginia Dalton, and Olga Leber.

Dorthy is survived by her sister, Patricia Waite of Toledo, Ohio; by her devoted son, Donald Richard (Sandy) Gratop of Sylvania, Ohio; 5 grandsons, Michael John Gratop of Atlanta, Georgia; Douglas Carl Gratop of Houston, Texas; Matthew Ryan (Sharon) Gratop of Charlotte, North Carolina;  Christopher David Gratop of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Robert (Julie) Dazel, of Monroe, Michigan, two granddaughters, Lyndsey Nicole Gratop of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Kristin Collette (Ryan) Schindler, of St. Petersburg, Florida; three great grandchildren, Brittany and Ashley Dazel of Monroe, Michigan and Kaylee Schindler of St. Petersburg, Florida.

The family will receive guests for visitation on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Reeb Funeral Home on 5712 N. Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio (419-882-2033).  A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Father Mike Dandurand, of  Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption, Ohio, followed by entombment in the Chapel of Memories at Toledo Memorial Park on 6382 Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio (419-882-7151).  Special thanks go out to the care-givers at Sunset Village in Sylvania, Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashanti Hospice.  “Your life in Heaven has just begun.”
