I am sorry for your loss. I am so proud of Daniel for the work he did toward recovery. His death only makes that struggle more poignant. I wanted to thank the family for highlighting his addiction in his obituary. As someone who has worked with that population for many years, I am grateful for your candor. We are so sorry for your loss. We do not know you or your son, Daniel. But our son also suffers from the disease of addiction, so we live in fear of your reality every day.

Thank you for your courage to share the cause of Daniel's death in his obituary. We all need to start talking about this epidemic openly. We need to help others understand what it is and the toll it is taking on us and our loved ones.
