Yvonne Bessie Hyma (Schmidthuber) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, of Sylvania OH, passed away peacefully at 90 years of age on February 5th, 2026.
Yvonne (Eve) was born to Fred Schmidthuber and Lillian (Drabek) Schmidthuber, in Chicago, IL on July 8th, 1935. She married John Timothy Hyma on June 17th, 1956. They first moved to Gonzales, TX before settling in Toledo, and then Sylvania, OH. She attended the University of Toledo earning both bachelor's and master's degrees in education, while raising 4 children. She would teach a variety of subjects for the Maumee Public School District for over 20 years. Post retirement she volunteered to tutor at risk students for the Toledo Public Schools into her 80’s.
Eve’s pleasant manner and quiet grace were qualities that will be remembered by all who knew her. Not as obvious were her inner strength, resolve and curiosity that allowed her to move through life with purpose and belief to accomplish many things not typical of women in her generation. She had an infectious wonderful belly laugh with occasional snorts (the latter inherited by her children much to their chagrin) and she loved her family (both immediate and extended) unconditionally. She touched the lives of so many as a mother, sister, grandmother, teacher, through AL anon, and as a friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years John Timothy Hyma, her sister Marietta Lalish, and her brother Jerome Schmidthuber.
She is survived by her sister Henrietta Hughes of Naples, FL. Also, her four children, Jeffery Hyma of Winona, MN, Melissa Blanc (Bill Blanc) of Santa Rosa, CA, Kimberly Cashman (Brett Cashman) of Superior Twp., MI and Matthew Hyma (Stacy Hyma) of Santa Rosa, CA.
She has seven grandchildren, Mar Brisa Aceves, Hayden Hyma, Avery Hyma, Madison Cashman, Grant Cashman, Saige Hyma, and Chase Hyma.
A visitation is scheduled for February 21, 2026, at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St, Sylvania, OH 43560. All family and friends are welcome between the times of 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm to remember and celebrate Eve's exceptional life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eve’s memory to Guidepost, for Military subscriptions or PBS.
