William James Sumrel passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with his loving family by his bedside.
William was born to his loving mother, Mae Baucom. He proudly served his country as a Gunners Mate in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, he built a long and dedicated career at GM Powertrain, where he retired as a machine operator.
William married his loving wife, Eleane Margaritis Sumrel, and together they shared 69 amazing and loving years of marriage.
William was a wonderful father and devoted family man and will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family and friends, with a quiet pride in a life well lived. He was an avid golfer, a lifelong football fan, and a skilled softball second baseman. He also enjoyed bowling and proudly held a 213 average. In his younger years, William gave back to his community as a Assistant Peewee football coach, positively impacting many young lives.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Margaritis Sumrel; his son, Tim Sumrel (Darlene); four grandchildren, Desirae, Sean, Kayla, Nicholas; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Samantha, William, and Frankie Rae. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Carol Duncan.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Frank Duncan, and his 2 brothers. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 11:00 am until the service begins at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
