Walter “Walt” John Skotynsky was born on June 28, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio. He passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, on his 53rd wedding anniversary, after a very sudden decline in his health. Walt was only 78 years of age.
Walt is survived by his loving wife Sandra “Sandy” (Wiebeck), his son Nick and daughter-in-law, Kristin and his granddaughter Josephine, brothers Mike and Charlie, and sister Judy, as well as sister-in-law Barbara (Bolduc). Along with many loyal friends and extended family members. Walt was predeceased by his father Walter, mother Kathleen, and brothers Nicholas and Thomas.
While attending St Francis de Sales High School, he would meet Sandy at a YMCA dance which lead them on a history of love and adventure. He would go on to get his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Michigan and then attend the University of Toledo to obtain his Law degree and serve as a Lawyer in Toledo for the next 46 years.
In a word, Walt had a passion for knowledge and family. He was always there for a kind, encouraging word, and a helpful hand to put late night projects together. He had an affinity for storytelling and loved to share his tales over a cold Miller Lite, over ice, at a sports bar. Walt loved to be on the water where he would take boat rides and swim while sharing time with his closest friends and family. On Saturdays you could find him glued to the television or at “The Big House” to watch his 2023 National Championship team, Michigan Wolverines, play football. He was a proud member of the Hibernians, VFW post 2898, and was the president of the Toledo chapter of the University of Michigan club.
Walt’s celebration of life with friends and family will begin on Friday July 19, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Reeb Funeral Home at 5712 Main St, Sylvania, OH 43560. Funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Church at 4100 Harvest Ln, Toledo, OH 43623 beginning at 11:30 am and burial at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park at 4210 Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43606 to follow.
