Victoria Stroll Obituary

Victoria “Vicki” Anne (Zytkus) Stroll devoted her life to helping others, especially her beloved son Christopher. After a life of service, Vicki passed away quietly on April 16, 2024 at the age of 72.

Vicki was a gifted and hard-working student who graduated from Sylvania High School and Bowling Green State University. She served as a veterinary technician and then, true to her call to service, Vicki chose a career in nursing. She received her nursing degree through the University of Toledo and worked at Flower Hospital beginning in1992 and retiring in 2016.

In 1980 Vicki wed Fred Stroll, beginning a 40+ year partnership. Christopher arrived in 1984. He was her life’s true joy. Family interests included boating and vacations near the water. Vicki was an excellent cook, often fearlessly adding her own touch to recipes. She loved dogs, and the family welcomed several over the years, recently including a senior dog named Esther. Vicki said that Esther deserved to have a good home in her later years.

At age 10, Vicki decided on her own to attend Sylvania United Church of Christ. As time went on, she became a very active member, serving on several Boards and committees including being the church Clerk for a four-year term. The church became Vicki’s extended family and Vicki and Christopher greatly appreciated the support provided by church members, particularly throughout her last years.

Vicki fought many health battles, beginning with breast cancer in the early 2000s. Later she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and in 2021 she experienced a recurrence of breast cancer. Despite these personal challenges, she cared for her husband Fred as his health and cognition declined, and for her son Christopher who has a chronic and progressive physical disability.  She was instrumental in ensuring that Christopher attended and graduated from the University of Toledo where he received his engineering degree.

Vicki never complained about her life challenges. She was unfailingly upbeat. A kind and generous friend, she was always ready to offer support and wise counsel.

Vicki is survived by her son Christopher, her stepsons Frank and Brian Stroll, and her stepdaughters Debbie and Tammy. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, half-brother James Heskett, and by her parents Chester and Helen Zytkus.

A celebration of life will be held at Sylvania United Church of Christ on Monday April, 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, Vicki’s friends are encouraged to make a donation to Sylvania United Church of Christ, the Susan B. Komen Foundation, Toledo Metroparks, or the American Cancer Society.
