Vernon Francis Gilsdorf

Vernon Francis Gilsdorf, 96, formally of Tiffin, OH died January 31, 2020 at Sunset Village, Sylvania where he was known as “Mr. Sunshine”.  He was born in Toledo, OH to Arnold and Lillian (Thiel) Gilsdorf.  

Vernon attended Blessed Sacrament School, Toledo, OH graduating in 1938 and DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, OH graduating in 1942.  He was employed at Toledo Scale Company in Toledo, OH from 1942 until 1983 in the manufacturing methods and tooling department. Vernon was involved with the Catholics United for the Faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, OH and Wyandot County Right to Life from 1987 until 2012, holding various offices. He belonged to St. Catherine Church, Toledo, OH, St. Peter Church, Upper Sandusky, OH and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania, OH.  Vernon volunteered at Lucas County MR/DD, was a board member and volunteer from 1988 until 1993 at Wyandot County MR/D, Bethel Ministries, Upper Sandusky, OH.

Vernon is survived by his children, Mary Jo (Michael) Donald, Michael (Joan), John, Thomas (Rebecca), Joan Parlette, Richard Gilsdorf; grandchildren, Jennifer Knight, Michael Knight, Caleb Parlette, Kevin (Karen) Gilsdorf, Kelsey (Tyler) Wall, Kurtis (Victoria) Gilsdorf, Christopher Gilsdorf, Alexis Lujan, Sarah (Steve) Lujan-Merrell; and great grandchildren, Logan Knight, Alexis Gilsdorf and Cooper Gilsdorf.   He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan; son, Patrick; and daughter-in-law, Mary.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 9:30 AM until the Funeral Mass begins at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania. Vernon will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Tiffin, OH at 2:30 P.M.
