Thomas Williamson Obituary

Thomas H. Williamson, age 97, of Brown Lane, Sylvania, passed away Sunday August 15, 2021. He was born in Moundsville, W. Virginia March 9, 1924. Son of Paul T. Williamson and Sue (Reams) Williamson. The family moved to Toledo in 1927, he grew up on Toledo’s East side, attending Oakdale School and was   a 1942 graduate of Waite High School. He studied at the University of Toledo when interrupted for service in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II.  He served aboard the USS Magoffin as a Radio Technician.                                                                                                                                                                         

Upon returning to Toledo, Tom married June R. Wenland, June 12, 1948, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage before her death in 2002.  Together they raised two children, Joyce and Lynn Thomas.  He returned to the University of Toledo and received an Electrical Engineering degree in 1949 and began a 35-year career with General Electric Co., working as a Field Engineer in Toledo and Northwest Ohio. He retired in Cleveland as an Engineering Manager in 1984. Upon retirement he started a second career in real estate, licensed first in Cleveland and subsequently with DiSalle Real Estate in Toledo.

He and his family were long time members of Reformation Lutheran Church where he served on several committees and was Head Usher for many years.  He became a member of Advent Lutheran in 1999 and is currently a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Sylvania.

He was a life member of VFW Post 606. As a member of the USS Magoffin Veterans Association he attended a reunion in Lexington, KY in 2003 and had the great fortune to meet Wilma Schanzenbach, from Chewelah, WA and the widow of a  former shipmate.  Together they had several years of a loving companionship prior to Wilma’s fight with Alzheimer’s, she passed July 1, 2017.

A baseball fan, lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, between the years 2005 and 2008 he attended all 30 major league baseball parks.  Wilma was along for 12 of these.

One of the travelers, with his trip to Alaska in July 2015 he has been to all 50 states and to 16 of the nation’s National Parks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, June, and brother Jerry (Ruth)

He is survived by children, Joyce Jones, Niota, TN. and son, Rev. Lynn T. (LaShell) Williamson, a Lutheran Pastor of Canal Fulton, Ohio. Grandchildren, Errett Butler, Canton, OH., Megan (Justin) Hernandez, Avon, OH., Valerie Jones, Toledo, and Eddie (Miranda) Jones, Niota, TN, Keegan Crine , Rylie Crine, and Molleigh Wagner, Great grandchildren, Kaylee and Joshua Nevers, and Logan Hernandez.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., Sylvania, Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 10-11:00 A.M. with funeral following, at 11:00 A.M. burial at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
