Tom Tomczak, 82, on Nov.11 2022, still reeling from his Yankees’ brutal defeat, passed away peacefully knowing that the Democrats had retained the US Senate.
Born in the Polish Village, Toledo was always his home. He was an Alum of Central Catholic, Toledo University, and Toledo Law School. Attorney of Law for over 50 years, Tom was in private practice, an assistant county prosecutor, defense attorney, and chief prosecutor for the city of Toledo.
With his flair for dramatics and demonstrative booming voice, it was no surprise that he felt at home on the stage of local theaters. Whether acting, singing, or directing Tom was involved in many productions. He was a mainstay in the productions of the TJBA Gridiron Show.
An avid golfer and member of Highland Meadows Golf Club for over 50 years, he loved the game. Keeping pace of play, etiquette, and following the rules (play it down!) were a necessity in his group.
And with that powerful voice, Tom bellowed out the players’ names of the LPGA Marathon Classic, formerly the Jamie Farr Classic, since it debuted in 1984 (no microphone needed).
When he wasn’t winning on the course, he was winning in the backroom playing gin rummy. Surely, he’s got a game going.
Tom is survived by his wife, friend and love, Deb, of over 26 years; children Beth (Kevin) Schmidt and Steve Tomczak, step daughter Tobey Petas, step sons Thad (Heather) and Rodney (Brandy) Save; grandchildren Brayton Schmidt, Isabella, Olivia, and Claire Petas, Tanner and Anika Save; in-laws Sandy Brown, Gary (Deb) Wayer, Jody (David) Cherry, Michael (Chris) Wayer, Nancy (Edward) Obloy, Tom (Astrid) Jackson, former wife, Joan Tomczak, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear, dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Helen Tomczak; brother, James Tomczak; son-in-law, James Petas; and brother-in-law, William Brown.
A gathering of family and friends to share memories of Tom will be held at Highland Meadows Golf Club Sunday, Dec. 04, 2022, from 1-4pm. Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
