Thomas Stover Obituary

Thomas H. Stover, 81, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday October 19, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio at Ebeid, after a long illness. Born on January 9, 1943 to DeForest “Pete” Weiss and Sylvia Camp Throneberry, but raised by his beloved parents Charlie & Mae Stover where he grew up in his cherished town of Walbridge, Ohio, along with his sister Joan and brother Richard. As a young adult, Tom resided in Walbridge with his brother, where they were both very involved in the community, especially in the yearly St. Jerome’s festival. Many friends and family could often be found on the weekends at Tom and Richard’s house, where they were always hosting pool parties. Tom was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He loved boating, entertaining friends by the pool and was an avid crossword cruciverbalist. Beginning in 1984, he joined Harbor View Yacht Club where he spent many Sundays behind the bar, serving drinks and socializing with club members. He served as Rear Commodore at Harbor View in the early 2000’s and continued his membership until he sold his boat the “Holly’s Hideaway” in 2009. Tom had a love of cars, especially Jeeps and the many sports cars he owned over the years. He was employed at the Toledo Jeep Assembly Plant for 40 years as a press shop and
maintenance manager. After retirement, he drove for Yark Automotive doing dealer trades for over 15 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed a good round of golf with friends or his son-in-law, Bob. He enjoyed doing house projects over the years at his house or for his daughters Lori and Amy. He loved watching his grandchildren play baseball and softball as well as perform in musicals and plays. Tom enjoyed music and was known as quite an audiophile. His sound system, both indoors and outdoors, was legendary. Often, upon arriving at Tom and Holly’s house, you would hear Elvis, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, or the soundtrack from the Phantom of the Opera, blaring through the speakers. In quiet times, Tom enjoyed watching classic detective shows like Charlie Chan, Sherlock Holmes and Poirot, along with one of his favorite movies, Christmas Vacation. Besides boating, Tom and Holly vacationed many places with both friends and family. Whether the beaches of Hawaii with friends Bill and Colleen or Myrtle Beach and Outer Banks with family, Tom loved the warmer climate. He cherished all his time with his family and close friends. Tom had a love of animals, especially his numerous grand dogs including Cooper, Buddy, Henry, Kaz & Murphy.                                                                                                                                               .  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Stover and close friend William Wagoner. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Holly (Dierker) Stover, daughters Lori (Stover) Chasky, Amy (Robert) Kasprzak, grandchildren Deven Middleton, Jack Kasprzak, and Katie Kasprzak. In addition, he is also survived by his sisters, Joan Barnett, Vickie Swanson, sisters-in-law Kathy Stover, Julie (Karl) Tillman and brother- in-law Denny Dierker. He is survived by nieces Teri (Ernie) Elliott, Rikki Stover, Stephany (Blair) Helman, Victoria (Brian) Killian and nephews Steven (Staci) Blair and Matthew (Corinne) Dierker.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            A visitation is planned for Sunday October 27, 2024 from 4-8pm at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St in downtown Sylvania, where memories of Thomas will be shared beginning at 7:15pm.
