Ted M. Cafferty, of Sylvania, Oh, and formerly of Dearborn, Mi, passed away peacefully in his home, near his window overlooking the Ottawa River on the morning of July 11, 2025. Ted was born in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan on September 13, 1940, and grew up downriver from Detroit, along with his older brother Frank. He was a career educator, with a B.S. and M.A from Eastern Michigan, followed by an ED.S. from Michigan State. Ted taught math, was a school counselor and ended his career as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel with the Lincoln Park, Mi school system.
Ted played football at St. Francis Xavier High School in Ecorse, Mi, was a lifelong Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed keeping score, especially during the 1968 and 1984 seasons. In retirement, he and Beverly traveled extensively, including many trips to Stratford, Ontario for its Shakespeare Festival.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Cafferty (1899-1953) and Grace May (1909-2002), wife, Beverly, Beverly’s son Marvin and his brother Francis. He is survived by children Timothy (Kathleen), Thomas (Susan) and Jeffrey (Renee), grandchildren Eric (Amy), Joseph (Melissa), Mitchell (Kathryn), Mandalyn (Nathan), Claire (Robby) and Jonathon (Rachel), numerous great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Annette.
