Susan J (Papenhagen) Aldrich

Susan J. Aldrich, age 75, of Brooklyn, Michigan passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023; she left too soon after a battle with dementia. Sue was born in Toledo, OH, the daughter of Doris (Frank) Horkey. Sue attended Whiteford Schools and was the Homecoming Queen.

She wore many hats in her professional life including, farmer, beautician, EMT, office manager and the best bus driver around.  Susie, as some would remember her by, enjoyed and excelled at many hobbies. These included bowling, cooking (the great recipes will stay a secret forever) and tending her beautiful flowers and pergola.  She enjoyed lake living, basking in the sun and never met a cookie she didn’t like.  Her loving, independent, feisty and loyal personality is what everyone will remember; she had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good road trip to visit family and friends. What made Sue shine the most was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to laugh, had as much youthful energy as they did and was very resilient and intensely protective of those she loved.

Sue will be deeply missed by her loving family including her children, Dan (Courtney) Aldrich of Chelsea, MI, Tara (Eric) Allshouse of Kansas City, MO; Deb (Dave) Thelen of Rockford, MI; her grandchildren, Kennedy, Keaton, Reed, Hudson and Hunter; her sister, Pauline Leogrande and many other beloved family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jerry and Gail Papenhagen and her nephew, Bruce Fink.

A gathering of family and friends will be at the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, OH Sunday March 19, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a memorial service starting at 3:30 p.m. Following the service, friends and family are invited to celebrate Sue with food and refreshments.
