Sophie B. Sitek enjoyed 105 years of life, and on November 6, 2021, she entered into Eternal Life, reuniting with all those dear to her who been waiting for her on the other side.
Always proud of her Polish heritage, she was raised in the Lagrange St. area. There, she met Richard Sitek, her Prince Charming. They were married in 1947 and went on to share 54 years of marriage together.
Sophie was the inveterate homemaker who loved to cook and especially liked to bake desserts. She enjoyed their yearly trips to Ft. Myers, FL, where she and Richard spent many wonderful times. Together, they enjoyed sunsets and shell collecting as they walked the shores of Ft. Myers Beach at low tide.
When Richard became ill at the age of 68, Sophie became his full-time care giver. No one could have received better care than Richard. During this time they moved to Ohio Living at Swan Creek, where they made numerous good friends and they enjoyed the many activities available. It was here that Sophie began to crochet blankets for patients at the Mercy Health and St. Vincent Medical Center. She did this for 18 years and stopped when she reached the age of 104. In April of 2017, she was recognized as their oldest volunteer and was featured in their quarterly magazine.
Surviving Sophie are her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Chuck Dendinger, whom Sophie thought of as her son, and their little Bichon, “Sophie Sue”, her beloved grand-dog. Also, surviving are her niece, Julie Wilson and nephew, David Szumygala. In addition are Barbara, Jerry and “Andy” Mullins, who were devoted friends and to Sophie, extended family.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in contributions to the charity of your choice, in her name. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 10:00 am until the funeral service begins at 11:00 am at Swan Creek Reed Chapel. Burial immediately following at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
