Sharlotte Rae Turin, 78, of Sylvania, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 7, 2023. She was born on July 30,1944 in Maysville, KY, to parents Charles F. and Edna Mae (Prather) Sauer. She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. Sharlotte came to Toledo after high school to study nursing at Mary Manse College and then received her RN Diploma in Nursing from St. Vincent School of Nursing. She also pursued graduate studies in Public Health Administration at the University of Toledo.
Sharlotte began her nursing career at St. Vincent Hospital and remained part of the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Family for 36 years. She worked her way through the ranks starting as a staff RN, a head nurse, clinical nursing supervisor, Assistant Vice President of Nursing Administration, Assistant Vice President/Administrative Director of Ambulatory Services, and retired as the Director of Ambulatory Clinic Services for Mercy Health Partners, Metropolitan Hospital Division in 2001. After her retirement from St. Vincent, Sharlotte was employed by HCR Manor Care as a Regional Supervisor for a short time. After that, she became Practice Manager for ENT Physicians Inc. an ear, nose & throat surgical practice from 2003 until 2012 then finally retired.
In 1969, Sharlotte took a military leave of absence from St. Vincent Hospital to serve in the United States Air Force and spent two years active duty as an RN at Wilford Hall Military Hospital in San Antonio, TX, retiring as a Captain. When she returned to Toledo and St. Vincent Hospital, she then joined the 180th TAC Fighter Group, Ohio Air National Guard, where she met her future husband, John C. Turin, a Toledo lawyer. Sharlotte and John were married on April 19,1975, and enjoyed 48 years together until Sharlotte’s passing.
Sharlotte belonged to several professional organizations and was involved in numerous community organizations, including Mom’s House, Toledo Uptown Association, St. Vincent Auxiliary Association, and WIC Advisory Committee. She also was an Ambassador at the Toledo Museum of Art and served as Treasurer and Co-President of the Toledo Bar Auxiliary. Sharlotte was loved by almost everyone she met. She was hardworking, dedicated, very kindhearted and was extremely generous with her time. She will be greatly missed.
Sharlotte is survived by her husband of 48 years, John C. Turin; mother-in-law, Sybil Turin; son, John J. Turin (Landry Peden); daughter, Ashley Turin (Daniel Dynan); and twin grandchildren, Nehemiah and Faelyn Dynan.
