Semone Landon passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, in the loving arms of her daughter, Dee Keating and son-in-law, Craig Keating at Elizabeth Scott Communities in Maumee, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, her brothers Michael Jackson and Dickie Jackson and her husband of 28 years, Peter Landon (Ontario Canada). She is survived by her only daughter, Dolores (Dee) Keating; Son-In-Law, Craig Keating (Toledo, Ohio); Grandson, Jeremy Johnson (Harrison Twp. Michigan); Great-Granddaughters, Alyce Semone Johnson and Chloe Aaryn Johnson; Sister, Joyce Catoe (Flat Lick Kentucky); and many nieces and nephews.
Semone was born to Oscar Jackson and Marie Mills in Knox County, Kentucky but resided on Greasy Creek in Bell County Kentucky, until 18 then moved to Columbus, Indiana, where she lived about 5 years. She then moved with her brothers and sister to Detroit, Michigan, where she started working at the Holiday Inn near the original Detroit Tiger Stadium in Detroit. Semone loved her Tigers Baseball and was a HUGE Tigers fan, and the highlight was when she got to meet the Tiger players when they stayed at the Holiday Inn during the 1968 World Series. She always told stories of all the players that would come in and ask for her section because they all loved her so much. That Holiday Inn closed, and she moved to the Holiday Inn in Hazel Park, Michigan and moved from Detroit to Roseville, Michigan, where she had some amazing friends/neighbors who helped each other out all the time.
Semone met her husband, Pete, at the Holiday Inn in Hazel Park, even though she swore she would never date a customer, she broke her own rules when she met Pete, and they were married April 29, 1989. She retired from Holiday Inn after 35 years, and the hard work of being a waitress/bartender took its toll on her body many years later. Peter and Semone moved to Findlay, Ohio and lived there for 15 years before moving to Toledo to be closer to her daughter and amazing son-in-law who assisted with care, and she moved in with her daughter after Peter died in 2017. Semone leaves a big empty whole in many hearts and will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home Saturday May 18, 2024 Noon - 4:00 P.M. and a final burial with take place this summer for Semone and Peter at the Binghamtown Cemetery in Flat Lick Kentucky.
