Ruth Ann Wetmer (Harrell) of Sylvania passed away peacefully on May 31, 2022. She retired from Ameritech Communications in 1986. In 1975 she was promoted to District Commercial Manager becoming the first woman in the company’s history to hold that position. She attended Bowling Green State University and The University of Toledo. In 1979 she was chosen as a TWIN (Tribute to Women and Industry) Honoree as an outstanding woman in the country.
She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, The Press Club, The Toledo Club, Catawba Island Club, The Maumee River Yacht Club, and Bay Colony Yacht Club.
She married the love of her life, Floyd E. Wetmer, in 1975 and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2003. She is survived by her brother, Franklin Harrell, and his family of Florida. Her memory will be kept alive by her sister and best friend, Linda E. Parker; and her niece (whom she considered her shared child with Linda!), Penny A. Parker; along with Penny’s husband, John Wuebben; and their now college aged “littles,” Willis and Whitney (the lights of her life); along with other nieces and nephews.
While focused on her career, Ruth Ann’s early retirement allowed “Aunt Boo” to pursue her love of boating, shopping and socializing. Always the life of the party, she was an amazing storyteller, conversationalist and avid book reader. Her larger-than-life personality and sound advice, along with her unwavering support and endless love, will be forever missed. Online condolences to www.reebfuneralhome.com.
