Rosemary Pierson, known as “Nomma” to her family, passed away on November 20, 2022. Born in Toledo, Rosemary remained a resident of the area her entire life. She displayed her self-assured spirit at a young age when she started calling herself Rosemary, rather than her birth name of Mary Harriet, simply because she liked Rosemary better. This small act set the tone for her determined nature, as she never took “no” for an answer and marched to the beat of her own drum through her final days. She was the #1 supporter of each of her family members, and anyone who had her as an advocate could truly consider themselves lucky.
Rosemary loved her role as a kindergarten teacher at Jackman Elementary where she taught from 1965-1983. Her natural gift for inspiring kids surfaced in the personalized, puzzle-filled easter egg hunts she crafted for each of her grandchildren, one of their favorite memories. It continued through the happiness she found playing with her great-grandchildren later in life.
Rosemary enjoyed traveling, sports, and games – such as taking trips with her husband, playing golf regularly (she scored four holes-in-one!) and enjoying card games with her family, including many lively rounds of Pit. Throughout her life she loved socializing with the many friends she made through her bridge group, her bowling league, the Revelers Dance Club, and golf leagues at Sylvania Country Club and Highland Meadows. Rosemary’s legacy reminds those who loved her that ice cream counts as a meal and that every dog always deserves a treat (or two).
Rosemary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard (“Papa”) Pierson. She will be dearly missed by her daughter – Barb (Rick) Mertes; her sons – James (Lori) Pierson, John (Janice) Pierson, and Mark (Lori) Pierson; her grandchildren – Jamie (Schuyler) Edwards, Chris Pierson, Ryan (Desiree) Pierson, Ben (Lisa) Pierson, Sean Pierson, Kelly Pierson, Samantha (Bob) Napierala, and Matt Pierson; her great-grandchildren – Blake, Tessa, Amber, Bobby, Bryce, Elliott, Owen, and Clark; and every cherished family pet whom she absolutely spoiled.
We will welcome friends at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 North Main Street, Sylvania, OH on Friday November 25 th from 4-8PM. The family suggests that any contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
