Roger Wayne Goins Sr.

Roger W. Goins, Sr. "Wayne" , 84, of Swanton, OH, passed at St. Luke’s Hospital on Friday, January 14, 2022. He was born to William and Bertha (Bean) Goins on November 28, 1937.  He was married to Elsie “Jeannette” Shirey in 1960 and together raised three children and enjoyed 59 years before her passing in 2019.  

Roger "Wayne" worked as a caddie at Highland Meadows before joining the United States Navy serving on the USS  Prairie Destroyer Tender as a wood pattern maker, making parts for other US Navy ships.  While in the US Navy, Roger "Wayne" traveled all over the world including going over the equator twice. Roger "Wayne" then worked for Ray Green Boat factory for three years.  Roger " Wayne" retired from the Toledo Hydromatic plant then worked for Anderson's at the warehouse in Maumee  Ohio for ten years.                                                           

He helped to build the Sylvania Church of the Nazarene and parsonage and was a charter member of Swanton Church of the Nazarene, also helping to build it. He enjoyed wood working, built cabinets and remodeled homes with his  friend Tom Gerity.  Roger (Wayne) enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling all over the United States with his wife in their motorhome.  They spent many winters in Arizona.   

He is survived by children Roger (Wendy) Goins, Twana (Dale) McMillan, and Robert (Joyce) Goins; grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Goins, Jade and Joshua McMillan, Bradley, Amber and Cameron Goins; great-grandchildren, Neil, Devon, Jadeon and Harley; brother, Dennis (Lynette) Goins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandchild, Jarod McMillan; siblings, Carol, Dexter, Duvan and Garry.                                     

Family and friends may join the family for visitation at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, Ohio on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 11:00 am until the service begins at 1:00 pm.  Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.  The family suggest tributes to the building fund at the Swanton Church of the Nazarene.
