It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dad, Robert “Bob” Haas, of Toledo. He passed away, Tuesday July 13, 2021, he was 96 years of age. He was born October 8, 1924, to Elmer and Ethel Haas. He was raised on a farm in Wood County and graduated from Milton Center High School in 1942. Dad was also a 4-H member and advisor until his enlistment into the US Army. He married his childhood sweetheart, Esther Kistner, July 12, 1944. They were married 60 years before she passed away. He proudly served in WW II in the 11th Airborne as a combat engineer and paratrooper serving in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. When he returned, mom and dad lived in Toledo, where they raised three children. Dad worked as a post Engineer at the Rossford Ordnance. He was an electrician and worked for various companies. He retired in 1984 from Chevrolet Transmission Plant after 26 years, where he was in Plant Engineers Electrical Department. He was a Life Member of the 11th Airborne Association, 82nd Airborne Association and American Legion- Post 587. He was also a member of the GM Salaried Retirement Club and Methodist Men. Before the pandemic, he would meet the ROMEO group (retired old men eating out) on Saturdays for breakfast at Uncle Johns. He also loved to eat at Rudy’s and American Table. Thanks to all for their kindness to dad. He was a member of Trilby United Methodist Church for many years. After dad’s retirement, he wintered in Florida and then in San Antonio, TX. He also spent lots of time at Walden Woods, Orland, IN where he had a camper. At 90 years of age, he bought a Can Am Spyder motorcycle and was still riding it as of this past May. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, brothers, Bernard and John Harold, triplet sons and great granddaughter, Malorie Stuchel. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Haggerty; children, Darrel (Judy) Haas, Marvin (Judy) Haas and Deborah Robinson; grandchildren, Michelle, Sarah, Aaron, Stephanie, Erica (Phil) Mishka and Alessandra (Clay) Mantzey; 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.
