Rita R Shindler

Rita R Shindler, 82, of Sylvania, OH died on December 1, 2024, at The Lakes of Sylvania.  She was born in Zainesville, OH  to Jerome and Rose (Downs) Gross but was a lifelong Toledo resident. Rita married James V. Shindler, Jr. on April 11, 1964, and together they raised four children. 

Rita graduated from St. Ursula Academy and St. Vincent Medical Center, earning a nursing degree, where she worked as an RN in labor and delivery. She was active at St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Sylvania, was very involved with the Toledo Bar Auxiliary having served as President and delivered Mobile Meals for years.

Rita loved animals, rescuing many, enjoyed shopping and spending time with her friends, “the church ladies” and her gourmet group. But her pride and joy was being a mother and a grandmother. She always said the only thing she ever wanted to be was a mother to her four children.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jim; children, Melinda (Edward) Wagner, Jim (Caroline) Shindler, Christine (Ernesto) Alessio, and Angela (Bill) Flynn; grandchildren, Nick (Sami) Wagner, Jake Wagner, Thomas (Callie) Shindler, Alexis (Joe) Malone, and Anna Shindler, Danilo, Ava and Andino Alessio, Valerie and Ryan Flynn; sister, Betsy Morrow. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 3pm until 6pm at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St., Sylvania, OH 43560. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main St., Sylvania, OH.  Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
