Richard "Dick" Laurell

After a valiant, eight-year fight with metastatic bone cancer, Dick Laurell passed away on March 27, 2025. A Toledo native, he was born to Arnold and Grace Laurell on April 26, 1940.

Dick was a friend to everyone he met. He was known and loved for his quick wit and kind heart. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed riding his horses, pulling a wagon with his mules, fishing, and hunting. Following his retirement from Detroit Edison in 2003, Dick and Sharon, his wife of almost 54 years, could often be found outdoors tending to their flower and vegetable gardens.

Above all, Dick loved his family. He considered spending time with them to be the best way to enjoy life. Dick and Sharon liked entertaining big crowds and used any occasion as an excuse to throw a party. Dick is survived by his wife, Sharon, and daughter, Shelley. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda; infant daughter, Tracey; his parents; and his brother, Arnold.

Visitation will be at the Reeb Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 from 4pm until 8pm.  The Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Temperance, MI on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00am.  Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery,

In Dick’s memory, the family invites people to donate to MOCC, a nonprofit started by his daughters. MOCC works to battle the rare form of cancer that claimed the life of his daughter, Rhonda, in 2020. Dick was a proud supporter of the organization. Visit Hope4MOC.org to donate online.
