Richard Malcolm "Fritz" Gooch

Richard Malcolm (“Fritz”) Gooch died on July 29, 2024, at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center at the age of 64.

Fritz was born on December 14, 1959, to James and Alice (Hiatt) Gooch. He graduated from Macomber High School, where he was 13th in his class. Fritz had a lifelong love of learning and was well-read and informed on many topics and current events. He also enjoyed online games with others.

Fritz's love for music was a vibrant part of his life. He enjoyed music of all kinds, from contemporary pop to sacred hymns. He shared this passion with his community, serving as a piano player for worship at his mother’s church in his early years. When he became a member of Grace Lutheran Church, he continued this music ministry, singing in the choir, serving as an assisting minister for Sunday worship, leading Lenten evening services, and playing piano for Wednesday worship on occasion.

Fritz was an active and beloved member of Grace Lutheran Church. He served on the Worship and Music Committee, the Stewardship Committee, and the Church Council. He also volunteered with Grace Full Friends. Fritz was always eager to learn more about his faith and was a committed member of Adult Sunday School class, Thursday Morning Theology Study, and other Bible Studies. Fritz was often heard to say, “I love meetings! I love coming here to church.”

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara. He is survived by his brother, Randy (Stacey) Gooch; nieces, Kimberly and Melinda; and nephew, Timothy.

Fritz was a devoted follower of Jesus whose life reflected God's love, grace, and hospitality. His sweet and generous spirit was a blessing to many.

A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 4441 Monroe Street, Toledo. A luncheon will follow.

Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church and marked “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.”
