Phyllis (Lilly) McClain

Phyllis Lilly McClain, age 93, of Sylvania, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Flower Hospital.  She was born March 10, 1930 to parents Charles and Bertha (Cooney) Lilly in Detroit, MI.

Phyllis married the love of her life, Robert Francis McClain on September 1, 1951. They were married for 49.5 years until his passing in 2001. Together they raised seven daughters and two sons.

Phyllis was a secretary for several agents at Savage and Associates for 10 years. She loved playing cards, especially bridge, and was active in her children and grandchildren’s activities. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family, and hosting Sunday afternoon dinners. Her great joy was to talk with each of her grandchildren and cuddle with the great grands.

Phyllis is survived by her children, daughters, Sharon (Steve) Panik, Mary Beth (Paul) Grogan, Jayne (Andy) Beckstead, Colleen (John) Crisman, Sister Patricia Marie McClain (SND); Charlene (Steve) Sherman, and Amy (Dave) Ross; sons, Robert (Sharon) McClain and James McClain; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Ellen Kramer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; sisters, Joanna Steele and Margaret Steele; and brothers, Richard and Robert Lilly.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 17, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania, OH. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. The Mass also will be live streamed at www.stjoesylvania.org/livestream

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame or charity of donor’s choice in memory of Phyllis.
