“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Paul Allan Snepp finished his race here on earth on April 28, 2022. He was born on May 6, 1928 in New Paris, OH to Virgil and Virginia (Steadman) Snepp. Paul graduated from Liberty Local High School in 1946. After graduation he worked at both the Dayton and Port Columbus airports. Following a stint in the Marines, Paul attended Minnesota Bible College, where he received a Bachelor of Sacred Literature in 1954. In later years, Paul attended the University of Toledo, receiving his degree in Engineering. Paul worked at Continental Aviation and Dana Corporation, but he spent most of his career at Champion Spark Plug where he retired after 19 years in 1989. Never one to be idle, Paul worked many summers at Highland Meadows Golf Club where he oversaw golf cart maintenance.
While attending Minnesota Bible College he met Sylvia Claire Thoms. After dating a short time they married in 1952. Both Paul and Sylvia determined before they were married that they would put God first in their life and in their marriage. Paul graduated in 1954 and they returned to the Toledo area. For 2 years Paul pastored a small church in Tedrow, OH. After pastoring, Paul and Sylvia began to attend Emmanuel Baptist Church. Paul was active in many ministries including Sunday School Superintendent, bus ministry, deacon, and served on many committees as well. Paul served at Emmanuel for over 35 years before being led to Blissfield Baptist Church, where he continued to be active for over 30 years and was faithful to the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and served as deacon as well as being on planning committees.
Paul loved tinkering in his workshop. He always had a project he was working on, and even the week prior to his death he was looking forward to being well enough to be back in his workshop. Paul and Sylvia loved camping and enjoyed many adventures traveling in their motorhome. Their favorite place was Hoeft State Park where they spent two weeks every summer. Paul was affectionately known as “the roving reporter” by his family. He would take the dogs for a walk and over an hour later would return with news of the entire campground! Paul and Sylvia made many lifelong friends while camping.
Paul was a gentleman and a wonderful husband and father. He doted on Sylvia and adored her. He made sure her every need was met. Paul was a wonderful example as to how a man should treat his wife. He had high standards for those men who were to marry his daughters and granddaughters! Paul was so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will always be remembered for the camping trips they went on with him. The highlight of his day was when his great grandchildren would stop in for their frequent visits.
If you were to have asked Paul what he would want his legacy to be, it would be his faithfulness to his Savior. Paul loved the Lord and had a close relationship with Him. He was frequently seen reading his Bible and praying. His goal in life was to honor God and see others come to know Him.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Debbie Snepp; his parents; brothers, Neil and Dean Snepp; and great granddaughter, Emmalynn Claire Miller. Paul is survived by daughters, Paula Snepp, Atlantic Beach, FL; Christine Merz (Roger), Petersburg, MI; grandchildren, Will Smith (Tomoe), Honolulu, HI, Stephanie Burkhard (Russ), Bethel Park, PA, Sarah Bastian, Jacksonville, FL, Brandon Merz, Portland, OR, Natasha Miller (Robert), Ottawa Lake, MI, Dr. Carilyn Stark (Aaron), Sylvania, OH; great grandchildren, Amelia Smith, David & Ryan Burkhard, Olivia & Violet Bastian, Mason, Evan, Genevieve & Roman Miller, Harlan & Quinn Stark; brothers, Hugh Snepp (Laurel), Worthington, OH, Dale Snepp Columbus, OH; sister, Bonnie Greene (Gerry), Tecumseh, MI; and many nephews and nieces.
