“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Norman Shepherd, 84, of Holland, Ohio left his earthly body behind and ran into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Norm was born August 14, 1940, in Bluefield, WV to Robert Eugene Shepherd and Helen Lavender, and he always considered West Virginia his home, even after moving to Toledo in the 1950’s.
He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully, primarily alongside the congregation of Garden Park Church of Christ where he was a Sunday School Superintendent, a Bible study leader and an elder. He was currently a member of Christian Fellowship Church.
He spent his professional career in the insurance industry, eventually establishing Shepherd Insurance Agency. He was also an avid athlete who excelled at many sports, especially softball, which he coached often and continued to play well into his sixties.
In 1964, Norm married Arlene Aumend, with whom he recently celebrated his 60th anniversary. She survives him. Together, they raised five children: Jeffrey (Emily); Anita (Mark) Williams, Tracey (John) Wilder, Christopher, and Chad (Cheryl). His children and 16 grandchildren also survive him: Emily (David), Zachery, Alexis (Isaac), Cara, Mikayla, Gabrielle, Brianna, Karissa, Sydney, Jace, Shelby, Titus, Eliana, Jackson, Tessa and Isabella. He is also survived by his sister, Liz (Gordon) Carter, and brother, Bob (Becky) Shepherd.
Visitation will be held at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania on Tuesday, March 11 from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 12 at Christian Fellowship Church, 6711 Pilliod Rd, Holland, OH, at 10 a.m. with services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Springfield Township Cemetery, Holland, OH.
Memorials can be made to Christian Fellowship Church.
