Nondas "Pete" Karabogias

Nondas “Pete” Karabogias, age 92, passed away on Friday, February 7,2025 to reunite with his wife, Evangelia. Nondas was born on June 30, 1932 in the village of Thisvi, Greece. Nondas immigrated to the United States in 1952 sponsored by his Uncle Vassilios Nickolaou. When Nondas arrived in the US, he resided in Toledo and Cleveland before moving to Southgate, MI where he worked as a steelworker at McLouth Steel. Nondas was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, in which he became a powerful voice, obtaining hundreds of jobs for his friends and fellow countrymen. He was instrumental in establishing a program designed to provide mobile dialysis machines to people in need for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, an achievement of which he was very proud.

On June 28, 1959 he married the love of his life Evangelia at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Toledo. In 1960, Nondas became part owner of the Plantation Motel in Sylvania, OH. In 1978, he became the sole owner and moved his family to Sylvania to operate and run the business. Along with his family, he established two other businesses Nondas Restaurant and Cosmos Travel Agency. Nondas loved to travel with his family on trips to Greece and the Caribbean. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren but he especially adored his great-grandchildren. Nondas was preceded in death by his wife Evangelia, parents Nikolaos and Georgia, and brother Angelo (Zaharo). He is survived by his sister, Maria (Dimitrios) Lagos of Thisvi, Greece, three children Georgia (Xristos) Rongakis, Nick and Elaine, two grandchildren Jim (Vicki) Rongakis, Leah (Matthew) Simko, four great-grandchildren Jackson, Olivia, Christian and Antoni along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 N Superior St, Toledo, from 9 - 11 am with the funeral service commencing at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
