Neil Woodworth Obituary

How do you appropriately memorialize 93 years of the life of a treasured family leader? Neil passed peacefully in the early morning of January 18th in his home at Maumee Pointe Assisted Living. You can list facts: born in Ashtabula in 1931 to Orville and Marian (Taylor) Woodworth; he was the eldest of four children, he graduated from Eastwood High School in Ashtabula; continued his education at Ashland College; met his wife, Doris, while at Ashland College; graduated in 1953 and received his BS in chemistry; married Doris; served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany; became the father of three lovely girls, had a career as a chemist at Owens-Illinois in Toledo: and followed that career at Monarch Laboratories in Maumee.

But that doesn’t capture his indomitable and motivated spirit well at all. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather first and foremost. He and Doris enjoyed many interests during their 63 year marriage until her death. The interests were golfing, golfing, golfing, various sports events of the ’grands’ and ‘greats’, bowling, more sporting events, yearly Canadian fishing vacations, camping trip , photography excursions and did I mention sporting events? The ultimate passion and purpose of Neil’s life was his “kids” – from his girls to the ‘greats’. He rarely missed a sporting event, performance or a band concert. He not only took his immediate family on vacation trips but also his ‘grand’s. Plus his infamous Sunday drives after church which were always a “journey”. He doted, taught, teased mercilessly at times and acted like a goofball with the youngsters.

He is survived by daughters: Pam (Miles) Billmaier, LeaAnn (Scott) Edwards and Sandi (Jack) Meyers; his grandchildren: Nicole, Amanda, Cynthia, Andrew and Alexander; and his great-grandchildren: Cameron, Madison, Xander, Alexa and Ayden and step grandchildren: Veronica (Ben), Cara (Jean Marie), Tracy, (Tariq), and Jaime (Devon).

Neil’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Maumee Pointe, 1050 Medical Center Pkwy, Maumee, Ohio 43537.
