Nancy Jo (Rydman) Hill was born August 5, 1947, to John (Jack) and Doris Rydman in Toledo, Ohio. She had three little brothers, and they had a wonderful life growing up in Point Place. Her grandmother sewed many of her clothes and took her on train trips across the country. She liked to meet up with her friends, walk Summit Street and stop for ice cream. She babysat for many of the neighborhood kids. She had two best friends that were also named Nancy.
Nancy graduated from Woodward High School in 1965 and continued her education at T.U. She moved out with roommates and had the best times going dancing at the Faba. She met John Hill and his daughter Laurie in September 1976. Nancy and John fell in love and married June 11, 1977. They bought their home in Point Place where they lived for 46 years. Nancy was an exceptional wife and the most selfless, dedicated, and caring mother to her daughter Amber Marie.
She worked as a preschool teacher for E.O.P.A. Head Start for 20 years where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed decorating her home and classrooms. Nancy liked everything to be always in its place, including every ornament on her Christmas tree. She would spend hours talking to friends on the phone while sitting at the kitchen table drinking Pepsi and smoking cigarettes. She was a very picky eater that would binge on her favorite food until she couldn't stand it anymore. She loved to play all kinds of games. Her favorite game was Solitaire. She played with cards until she got an electronic game that she carried with her everywhere. She had a great group of bunco ladies that played together once a month for almost 30 years. She enjoyed getting together with her cousins. Finding treasures at garage sales made her happy.
She went shopping and to craft shows with Amber at every opportunity. She loved watching her daughter and granddaughters play various sports, her favorite being softball. She was a loyal fan going to every game and keeping score. Sometimes she even got it right! She was always so proud of her family. She liked posting scores and funny highlights on Facebook about her day with her "sweethearts" Raegan and Kendall.
Nancy did everything to the best of her ability and taught her daughter, granddaughters and students to do the same. Nancy had very strong morals. She did what she thought was right and always told the truth. She was very practical and did not like unnecessary things. Nancy did not have a mean bone in her body and had a smile for everyone she saw. Nancy was a warrior. She survived bowel obstruction surgery, quadruple bypass with valve replacement heart surgery, a brain aneurysm, breast cancer with a mastectomy, and skin cancer before her little body gave in on May 3, 2024 after 6 days of Hospice care at her daughter’s home.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, brother Kim Redman, and close cousin Diane Feree. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Amber (Jason) Hammons; stepdaughter, Laurie (Didier) Jegaden; granddaughters, Raegan and Kendall Hammons; brothers, Randy (LaRetta) Rydman and Jay (Laura) Rydman; and nephews, nieces, cousins & in-laws.
Amber would like to express the utmost gratitude to Jason, Raegan and Kendall who encouraged Mom to spend the last three weeks of her life in their home with her most beloved family. Extra special thanks to LaRetta Rydman who helped care for Nancy while Amber worked. Nurse Joanie with Kind Hearts Hospice showed Nancy the gentlest compassion in her final days. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation at Reeb Funeral Home 5712 N. Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio 43560 on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
