Nadine Helbing

Nadine (Gootee) Helbing, 77, was called home to Heaven on March 12, 2025, after a short stay at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Hospice Center. Born on March 23, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the only child of Elmer and Enid (Colbert) Gootee. She was an enthusiastic member of the Robert S. Rogers High School Rams Band. She graduated in 1965 and remained close with her band friends, who called her “Tash,” for her entire life. She earned an associate degree from the University of Toledo in 1970, worked on 6 South at Toledo Hospital from 1969-1983, and at North Cove Boulevard Church of God from 1986-2003. She and Tom Helbing were married on April 11, 1970, and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2024. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Joy and Rachel, serving in various leadership roles with the Girl Scouts as well as Rogers Band Boosters, and never missing a musical performance or sporting event their entire childhoods. She was a lifelong sports fan who especially loved the Ohio State University Buckeyes. An avid traveler with her family, she visited all 50 states and particularly enjoyed trips to the national parks of the American West.  

Nadine is survived by her husband Tom, daughters Joy and Rachel, many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Enid (Colbert) Gootee.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 4-8 pm with a celebration of life on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 11 am, both at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 North Main Street, Sylvania, OH 43560. Donations to Cherry Street Mission can be dedicated to her memory at cherrystreetmission.org.
