Michael “Mike” Bennett Templin, aged 71, passed away on August 15, 2025, after a tough battle with cancer, surrounded with love by his devoted family. Born February 18, 1954, in Huntington, West Virginia, ‘GO HERD!’ His family moved to Sylvania, Ohio, where he graduated from Sylvania High School in 1972. It was in Sylvania that he met his soulmate, Kathy Craver, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Mike was a man of many talents and interests. He took immense pride in coaching his son, Jonathan and dozens of other kids in baseball, flag football, and soccer. A reflective and deeply spiritual individual, Mike found solace and wisdom in reading the Bible, often studying passages that resonated with his life’s journey. His love for history and art led him to explore Civil War battlefields, peruse antique shops, and later in life, discovered he was a talented painter.
He was an avid runner, completing half-marathons, numerous 10Ks, and many 5Ks. Time catches up with us all, so Mike eventually made the switch to cycling. He could be seen all over Sylvania, riding his bike up to 12 miles-a-day.
Mike’s passion for music and sports was evident in his collection of concert and game ticket stubs, each a cherished memory of the events he attended. He called Jonathan his “concert buddy”. He and Jonathan saw dozens of bands together; Aerosmith, The Beach Boys, Motley Crue, Cheap Trick, Rob Zombie, Blue Oyster Cult, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Foo Fighters, and Alice Cooper to name a few.
Mike’s career was as varied as his interests. He was very successful in the flower industry for many years, but the early mornings and long hours wore on him. He switched careers and retired from Libbey Glass after nearly 20 years as a Production Specialist.
Mike is survived by his son, Jonathan (Danielle) Templin; father, George Templin; sister, Tara Hanna; nephews, Bradley (Ellen) Hanna, Dylan Hanna (Kristen), Drew (Courtney) Hanna, Ryan (Christie) Craver, Cory (Heather) Buford; niece, Kendall (Jeff) Braun; brothers-in-law, Bob (Allison) Craver, Tim (Sheri) Hanna; and sister-in-law, Linda Buford. He also leaves behind Adelaide Matilda, his crazy Australian Cattle dog. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Templin; sister, Julie Templin; brother-in- law, Roy Buford; and the love of his life, Kathy Templin.
Dad, you’re up there with mom now and you are finally at peace and with her again; eternal ice cream Mondays. Give the Gert a big hug for me and I’ll catch you in the funny papers.
In the words of Alice Cooper:
School’s out forever,
School’s out for summer,
School’s out with fever,
School's out completely.
