Michael Masters Obituary

Michael Gregory Masters, age 67, of Maumee, OH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He was born March 19, 1956, in Toledo, OH to William and Judith (Smith) Masters.

A lifetime resident of Maumee, Mike made many friends who still share a close bond. The stories are legendary, repeated frequently, but have never grown old. Whether it was games of HORSE at his parents’ home, boating on the river, softball games, playing golf, or “liar’s poker,” Mike always had a competitive spirit. This is something he instilled in his four children, along with his passion for sports. He enjoyed coaching his children in baseball and basketball. Unfortunately, they did not share his passion for the Buckeyes, although they enjoyed placing a friendly wager on The Game every year. One of Mike’s favorite pastimes was cheering on the Toledo Rockets with the guys. At the end of the night, Mike was always down for a “final final.”

Mike attended the University of Toledo where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He began working at Fort Meigs Auto Electric, the family business that served Greater Toledo as a wholesale automotive parts distributor. Mike became the third generation of his family to run Fort Meigs and he grew the company exponentially – he implemented inventory management systems, expanded into new markets, expanded the product line, and moved the business from its original location in Downtown Toledo to Northwood, Ohio. Mike loved to be at work, especially “parts managers meetings” and making sales calls with his customers; he cherished his devoted employees. He retired in 2018, and his son, Kris, took over operations. Mike’s true passion was his work.

He married Lynnette (Francis) Masters in 2013 and enjoyed nearly ten years of marriage until his passing. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with their dogs, and living along the river.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynnette (Francis) Masters; children, Kristopher (Melanie) Masters, Jessica Masters, Stephen Masters, Lauren (Eric) Porea; and step children, Ashley Hamway, Thomas Hamway, and Elizabeth Hamway; five grandchildren; siblings, Alison (Chad) Carr, Karen (Chris) Miller, and Greg (Melinda) Masters.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Barton Masters.

His children would like to thank his wife Lynn, Ken Knight, Carl Richardson, and friends who supported and cared for him these last 5 years.
