Matthew David Peters. June 16, 1975 – October 31, 2022.
“I can be quite sarcastic when I’m in the mood.” J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye.
His favorite novel said it best… that was our Matt. But below that layer of sarcasm and wit was a deeply caring, intelligent, welcoming, and fun-loving man who was a committed and doting father, supportive and loving son, and the best big brother a girl could ask for. As such, he leaves behind his son, Spencer Peters; his parents, David and Barbara Peters; and his sister, Kim Winslow (brother-in-law, Chris Winslow, and niece and nephew, Lucy and Elliott Winslow).
Like many who experience this type of loss, we thought we had more time with him. More time to enjoy his humor and lean into his natural comfort. More time to see him light up when talking about Spencer’s latest accomplishment at school or belly laugh while sharing something funny Spencer said or did. More time to play cribbage, chess, or Nintendo Switch. More time to just see him sitting across the room or at the dinner table.
But we know that although we won’t have more of those times, we will always have those memories. We will cling to them, and we will continue to flood him with the deepest love because he will always be a father, a son, an uncle, and a brother… our Matt.
His Celebration of Life will be held at Reeb Funeral Home (5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH) Sunday, 11/13 from 2-5p. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family would love to honor Matt with donations to the Sylvania STEM Center (sylvaniastem.org OR 7335 W. Sylvania Ave, Sylvania, OH 43560).
