Mary Patricia Rattay

Mary Patricia “Pat” Rattay of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 28th, 2023 in Maumee, Ohio surrounded by family. She was born on October 24th, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Patrick J. and Mary (Masterson) O’Malley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Victor, her sister, Nancy, and brother-in-law, John McNamara.

Pat grew up in her native Cleveland, graduating from Saint Stephen’s in 1946. She would later meet Vic and was married on October 17, 1953. They were married for 57 years until his passing in 2011.. Pat was a homemaker raising their three children – Denise, Mindy, and Rick. 

When Vic retired, they relocated to Clearwater, Florida where they spent several years enjoying the weather and traveling.   They missed their children and grandchildren returning to Sylvania in the early 90s.

Pat was fiercely loyal to her family, her Cleveland roots, and all things Irish.  She spent many years at the CYO field cheering on her grandchildren at games.  She never missed a holiday, birthday, St. Patrick’s Day in Cleveland, or any special event involving her family.  She was a devout Catholic, and practiced her faith in everyday life. 

Pat was an avid reader, and made great use of her library card over the years. Additionally, she was a skilled seamstress, spending hours making clothes and mending uniforms for her grandchildren. For several years, she worked in the boutique at the former Stein Mart developing wonderful lasting friendships. 

Pat is survived by her three children: Denise Conrad, Mindy (Jack) Benore, and Rick (Eileen) Rattay; 10 grandchildren: Shannon (Mark) Heringhaus, Greg (Kim) Bauman, Lindsay DeWalt, Bridget (Zak) Kanary, Mike Bauman, Kelsey Conrad, Rick (Elaine) Rattay Jr., Kaylan Bauman, Ryan (Casey) Rattay, Sean Rattay, and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, September 1st, 2023 in the narthex of St. Joseph’s Sylvania at 11:30 am. The funeral mass will follow at 12:30 pm. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Care Hospice or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
