Mary V. (Sydlowski) Murray, age 91, peacefully made her journey home into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father Saturday, Dec 4, at Sunset Village where she had lived for the past 3 1/2 Yrs. Mary was born in Chicago, IL on Oct 15, 1930. An only child, Mary was deeply loved by her mother. Knowing there would be struggles raising her as a single mother, she chose to bless Mary with the gift of life. Mary’s “mama” was determined to provide for Mary to the best of her ability through sacrifice and example; a strong foundation and love for Jesus as a Catholic Christian, the value of determination, dedication and commitment, love for music and a strong work ethic. Mary was given the best educational opportunities and was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s College, South Bend Indiana class of 1952. Mary worked many years as an Executive Secretary. She met and married John (Jack) Murray, living in the Detroit area before making their home in Sylvania, OH. Mary enjoyed golfing, working out and traveling the world with her husband, Jack. She had a beautiful voice and shared this gift with family and friends as well as singing at Weddings and Funerals. Athough Mary struggled with periods of anxiety and depression and later in life, chronic pain due to severe arthritis- eventually being confined to a wheelchair in her later years, she sought to glorify God by doing what she could, to share her smile and help others albeit in the simplest of ways...as was the example of Mother Theresa of Calcutta, “to do small things with great love”. Mary was a long time member of St. Joseph Parish, Sylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2012. She is survived by Jack’s relatives Maureen (Tom) Hoy, Joann Ratliff, Jack Haney, Kevin (Patty) Haney, 9 great-nieces and nephews, 5 great great nieces and nephews. We extend our sincere gratitude for the loving care of Sunset nurses, Laurie, Brad and Rose, her aides; Fayze, Morgan, Brad, Malcolm, Kashena, Meena, Michelle, Heather, Diamond, Cindy, Sue, Frankie and many others, as well as the loving guidance and compassionate care of Promedica Hospice nurses, Terri, Amy, Kim, Ashley, Donna. Please forgive any names missed, your loving care is priceless. Funeral Services provided by Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania, OH, Saturday, Dec 11, at 11am, with visitation in the Narthex beginning at 10am.
