Mary McMacken Obituary

Mary Elizabeth McMacken, age 91,  passed away peacefully January 2, 2021 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. She was born March 27, 1929 in Port Clinton, Ohio to the late Clarence and Ruth (Thompson) Anderson.

Mary and Thomas McMacken married in 1953, and raised four children in their Sylvania home.

An avid bridge player, Mary treasured the lifelong friendships she made through playing cards. She loved to host gatherings for friends and family, who fondly remember her annual Christmas Eve open house and July 4th celebrations. Mary’s Christmas cookies and pastries were the best!

Mary’s greatest joy was being with her grandchildren. “Grandma Mac” made their time together memorable, special and fun.

Mary was very friendly, straightforward and outgoing. Her humorous quips and colorful maxims made everyone smile.

Mary was a longtime member of Olivet Lutheran Church. She often commented that she “had much to be grateful for.” Indeed, all who had the privilege to know and love her have reason to give thanks for the life of this special mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed and held forever in their hearts.

Left to cherish her memory are Mary’s children, Thomas McMacken, Jr. (Ann), Deborah Ransom (Guy), David McMacken (Shelley) and Amy O’Brien (Joseph); grandchildren, Erin Kilcoyne, Scott McMacken, Emily Schumpert and Andy McMacken; great-grandchildren, Brynn and Remi Kilcoyne and Kiara McMacken; sister, Carol Kirby; brothers Johnny Anderson and Larry Anderson.

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas McMacken; parents, Clarence and Ruth Anderson; brother, Eddie Anderson; sister, Cheryl McMurray; and special cousin, Warren Ruff.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe Street, Sylvania, OH 43560 or the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Kingston Residence of Sylvania and Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek for the love, comfort and security they provided Mary in her final years of life.
