Marjorie Appling Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Bly) Appling, age 94, died peacefully in her home in Toledo, Ohio, surrounded by her family who loved her. Born 8/22/1930 to Harold and Ethel (Ervin) Bly on the family farm. Marge was always proud to have been raised on a farm and joked that all kids should be raised on a farm.  Marjorie graduated from Hilltop High in W. Unity, Ohio, and soon moved to the city! Marge worked many jobs including Western Union where she worked 10 years, the same 10 years that she gave birth to all 7 children. Retired from the City of Toledo after 30 years, her final year being secretary to the Mayor of Toledo.

After caring for husband Glen and then passing him, she returned to the workforce for TPS for 15 years. In addition, the family owned and operated several ice cream trucks over the period of 20 years.  This was a family endeavor that everyone participated in and profited from learning the hard work ethic that she inspired.  She also helped in the operation of Daglen Corporation with Dad, a furniture restoration business.

Marge was known for being a family person, a hard worker, staying fit and healthy and a lot of fun!  She was known to dance all night at 80 years old and at 90 was dancing to only one song, Lynard Skynard, “The Breeze”.  She has passed this love of music on to several generations.  Mom hosted all the holiday gatherings including Thanksgiving and Christmas, the summer holidays, sometimes celebrated at her lifelong dream family cottage at Crooked Lake in Angola, Indiana. Dad was the love of her life that she married after knowing for six short weeks, the lid to her pot as her Dad used to say & there is a lid to every pot; and they were married for 44 years until he passed in 1997. Marge opened her home to many non-family/friends who needed somewhere to celebrate the major holidays.  She was a great cook and was known for the best fried chicken back in the day as she made it for several of her kids; weddings, once even with a broken elbow.  Her gravy was the best in the land!  We all experienced being kicked out of her kitchen whether you lived there or not!

Marge was there for each of her kids and grandkids in her own way.  She supported, encouraged, inspired each way she could.  Marge was the “cool grandma”, loved by many young people.

Marge leaves behind many who loved her and who will follow in her footsteps including only son, Ronald (Darlene) Appling, daughters Terry (Doug) Snider, Linda Morgillo, Patricia Klatt, Julie (John) Adams, Sandy (Larry) Nelson, Son in law, Pete Buehler, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren with two more on the way and two great- great grandchildren and sister, Doris Taylor.  Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald Glen Appling, daughter Tammy Jo Buehler, sons-in-law, Jeff Klatt and Vincent Morgillo, grandson, Jacob Klatt, grandson -in--law and siblings Robert Bly, Helen Mayes, Ervin Bly and Mary Lou Oberlin.

Thank you to all her special friends and very special neighbors.
