Loretta Marie VanDyke, 99, passed away on March 14, 2023. She was born September 10, 1923, to Eugene and Marie (Wasserfuhr) Koch in Toledo, Ohio, but spent most of her youth as a farmer’s daughter on the family farm in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. She attended Stone Quarry School through 8th grade and graduated from Blissfield High School in 1941. She went to Tri-State Business School in Toledo and worked as a secretary and a waitress. She married Wesley VanDyke on July 26, 1945. They farmed together and they had a produce stall at the Toledo Market, but she found her true calling as a school bus driver for Whiteford Schools for 17 years. After she and Wes were retired, they spent many winters in Florida with her Florida relatives. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Tobin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leslie VanDyke, Cynthia (Jeff Tew) Sprague, Michael (Misty) VanDyke, Aaron Tobin and Jourdan Tobin; her five great-grandchildren, Shelby, Colt, Hailie, Savannah, and Adalynn; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 75 years; her son, Alan VanDyke; a daughter-in-law, Lee Ann VanDyke; her parents; and her brother. Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St., Sylvania, Ohio. Funeral Service will be Monday, March 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 8307 Memorial Hwy., Ottawa Lake, with additional visitation beginning 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
