Lois Ruth (Bondy) Nowak passed away peacefully on Thursday June 25th, 2020 after a long journey with Dementia Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Toledo Ohio on November 22, 1932 to Louis and Ruth Bondy. A proud Central Catholic graduate she loved her alumnus history and Catholic Faith.
Lois was the wife to Richard "Moe" Nowak for nearly 60 years before his passing in 2011.
The Mother of 4 children Rick Nowak, Debbie Welsh, Jackie Eisel and Susan Nowak and Grandmother to 10, Great Grandmother to 5, she enjoyed them all immensely. Grandma was always up for a game of Wiffle Ball, Cards, Yahtzee or Old Maid Her summers were spent at the family cottage on Posey Lake. In her early years Lois was an avid bowler, achieved the "500" series and averaged near 190 a game. After retirement she along with her husband spent winters on Lido Key Sarasota Florida
Lois cherished her time at Stranahan Elementary as a paraprofessional specifically in the classroom with her special needs children, “Gifts” as she referred to them all. She loved her playground time with her students “watching over her flock” and was affectionately referred to as "Mom".
Over 30 years of service with The Sylvania School System, including being nominated for Educator of the Year former Superintendent Brad Reiger upon her retirement in 2005 acknowledged her attendance, and commitment as she held the highest unused sick days in tenor. Unless she was contagious she would not let her students down she simply loved her Stranahan Children, Family. We are grateful she is no longer suffering, yet a void that cannot be filled. A selfless giver and an amazing hugger!
Please join us for A Mass Celebration of Life for Lois at St. Joseph Catholic Church Sylvania 10 am Tuesday June 30, 2020 Open to All.
Lois will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private family Christian Burial at Toledo Memorial Park.
In lieu of Flowers the family kindly suggests a donation to the "Lois Nowak Stranahan Project Fund" or to Memory Lane Care Services (formerly Alzheimer's Association Day Program) a program to assist caregivers, a place to take loved ones while they work or simply need a break. Both are an amazing legacy to our Mom.
Some family members would like to Thank Charter Senior Living and Promedica Hospice for her end of life care. There are so many individuals that supported our Mom, as well as our family in this Chapter
We are forever grateful.
