LeRoy "Spud" James Bunge

LeRoy James “Spud” Bunge, 71, of Dundee, MI, passed away January 21, 2024 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti, MI. He was born in Toledo, OH, July 20, 1952. He grew up in a large family in Ottawa Lake, MI. After receiving his college degree from Eastern Michigan University, Spud went on to embark in a career as a Respiratory Therapist for 21 years at Herrick Hospital. He married Diane J. Gularski in 1980, enjoying 43 years of marriage, and was a devoted father to his son, Jonathan.  His hobbies included golfing, reading, wood working, feeding the birds, and he loved tending his vegetable garden and sharing his produce. He was a Civil War enthusiast and passionate about political affairs. He encouraged his nieces and nephews to engage in the voting process and took great pride in their active participation. Spud was an avid sports fan, especially the University of Michigan Football, Detroit Lions, and Red Wings Hockey.

Spud is survived by his loving wife, Diane Bunge; son, Jonathan (Jennifer) Bunge; granddaughter Isabella, sisters, Cheryl (Henri) Lavimodiere; Mary Kay Bunge; Beth (John) Pauli; brothers, Dan (Rita), Jerry, and Jeff (Holly) Bunge; along with many nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Cleo.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH. Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 3, at 10 a.m. 

The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 3, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to The American Heart Association or the Monroe County Library System.
