Larry Douglas Kohlhorst, 78, of Leo, Indiana passed away on December 18, 2021, in Centerville, OH. he was born to Robert Kohlhorst and Verda (Stelzner) Kohlhorst of Piqua, OH on April 7, 1943. He was married to Sandra (Reed) Kohlhorst for 52 years before her passing in 2019.
Larry graduated from Piqua Catholic High School in 1961 and soon afterwards joined the United States Navy, serving for 4 years as a journalist at Eastern Fleet headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. He began his work career at Cummins Engineering in Columbus, IN. He retired in 2006 after working for 28 years as a Human Resource Manager for Dana Corporation, Syracuse, IN. Larry was truly a devoted family man. He was also an accomplished fisherman. He loved to angle on Lake Erie for walleye but really any body of water and bank made him happy, and his fly-in fishing trips to Canada were something he cherished. Larry really appreciated nature and had a particular fondness for turtles. He had a green thumb, having many plants he tended to and a large garden with both vegetables and flowers.
He was quick with a joke and was always a great addition to any family get together. After retirement, he began collecting and repairing fishing reels, exploring eBay for good deals, and going to garage sales and flea markets with his son and brother David.
He is survived by his son Mark Kohlhorst, daughter Christine (Bennett) Scarborough, grandchildren Sarah and Reed Scarborough, Trevor Kohlhorst; and brother David (Brenda) Kohlhorst.
