Karl W. Keefer, 75, of Sylvania, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 23, 1948 in Toledo, OH to Karl Keefer and Mary Ann (Reinier).
Karl graduated from Whitmer High School in 1966 and joined the Army, serving in Vietnam as a tank commander from 1968 until 1970. He served in the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, known as “The Big Red One”, earning two Bronze Stars, one with “V” for Valor.
After his service, he began his career in sales, selling tires for Firestone, Goodyear and ultimately retiring from Capital Tire in 2020. Karl and his wife loved Maui, HI. They visited together over 25 times making many great memories and friends. Karl considered it his second home. He enjoyed playing golf, softball in his earlier years and watching college football, especially his favorite team, the University of Michigan. Karl was a handyman, able to build anything and worked on cars and vans. He loved spending time with his family and his faithful German Shepherd, Shadow.
Karl is survived by his wife of 39 years, Irene; daughter, Courtney (Chad) Wagner; grandchildren, Piper and Emery; his sister’s daughter, Heather Barnes and many other nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Marvin) Nine and Helen Hornung. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Yvonne Keefer.
Family and friends may attend visitation at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania, OH on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10 am until the funeral begins at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Any contributions made in honor of Karl may be made to Wounded Warriors or the Honor Flight Network.
