Joy J Whitt

Joy Whitt, 81, of Toledo, OH died on October 8, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.  She was born in Toledo, OH to Gayle and Eleanor (Hawley) Goldsworthy.  Joy met her husband, Donald Whitt, Sr. at a young age and they married in 1961 and together raised 4 children.

Joy graduated from Whitmer High School in 1960 and began working at Sears in the candy department (she loved chocolate!).  After her children were born, she stayed home to raise them and was a very active volunteer at their school, St. Clement’s and served as a Campfire leader for her girls.  She attended all their activities and sporting events.  The family house was the “neighborhood hang out for the kids on their block”.  Joy made it a tradition to make fudge during a tornado warning.

After their children were grown, Joy worked at Montgomery Wards in the lingerie department and then at the University of Toledo bookstore, where she retired after 20 years.  She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she served in the Rosary Alter Society.

Joy is survived by her loving children, Cheryl (Rick) Macek, Michelle (Ernie) Grodi, Donald (Angela) Whitt and Doan (Cynthia) Whitt; grandchildren, Amanda (Kyle), Michael (Teri), Megan (Kyle), Alexa (Matt), Melissa (Chris), Ciera (David), Abigail, and Zachary (Emily); great grandchildren, Eleanor, Hudson, Lincoln, Oaklyn, Charlie, Teddy, Wyatt, Louella, Myla and Mateo; sisters-in-law, Debra Goldsworthy and Debbie Goldsworthy; and bothers-in-law, Albert Whitt and William Whitt.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Diana Goldsworthy; and brothers, Gayle, Jr., Hugh and David Goldsworthy. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 3PM until 7PM, with a Rosary service at 6 PM at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St., Sylvania, OH 43560. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 6149 Hill Ave., Toledo, OH 43615 with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
