John Woellner Obituary

 

John Woellner died on April 8, 2021, in Sylvania, Ohio, after a brief illness. He was born on May 31, 1926 to Edwin D. and Bessie (Bauer) Woellner in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Woellner held a number of increasingly responsible positions during his 38 years with Owens Illinois, retiring in 1987 from the position of Director of Corporate Purchasing. His education began at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, followed by a bachelor’s of business administration at the University of Cincinnati. He earned a master’s of business administration at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II he served as an officer in the US Army, with an overseas assignment in Italy.           

Mr. Woellner was most proud of his long association with the Boy Scouts in Toledo, and his service to Trinity Episcopal Church where he was active in many capacities including as Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and senior warden. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Phyllis, his brother Dave, his first wife Anne, and his stepson Stephen Hegamaster. He is survived by his wife Lou (Hegamaster); son John Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, and daughters Dianne Krupp (Steve) of Sarasota, FL, and Kathryn (Katy) Vander Molen of Madison, WI; stepdaughters Kendal Gladish (Ken) and Kelley Bowen of Austin, TX; grandchildren Kristen (Matt) Witwer of Tipp City, Ohio, John Vander Molen of Madison, WI, Ellen Gladish (Gerard Barreto) of Chicago; Donald Gladish of Austin, and Richard Bowen and Stephen Bowen of Chicago; and great-grandchildren Marcos and Edith Barreto, and Bennett Witwer.      

Mr. Woellner will be interred at Toledo Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
