John Charles Henderman, 74, of Sylvania flew to Heaven on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Jack, as he was known to all, was born on November 18, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio to parents John Henderman and Jeanne (Schroeder). As a child and teenager, Jack developed a love of nature. He would spend endless hours exploring the woods and marshes throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. His fascination with nature would ultimately fuel his passion for hunting and fishing. These hobbies would lay the foundation for his career in the outdoor industry.
Jack's outdoor career began as an employee of the Tackle Box in Toledo. He developed a friendship with many of the customers and he was always a great source of information for the local hunting and fishing spots.
After a little over a decade of working at the Tackle Box, Jack was able to pursue a career in archery, which he considered one of his greatest passions. He worked for corporations such as Browning and Hoyt where he was recognized as their top salesman several years in a row. It was Jack's incredible skill with a bow and arrow that was evident with his 1978 British Columbia hunt. He was so very proud that he was able to take down a record setting mountain caribou and mountain goat in the same trip- a hunt of a lifetime!
In addition to archery, Jack also enjoyed hunting waterfowl, pheasant hunting, and fishing. Fall was his favorite season because he would spend his time hunting ducks and geese with his son and close friends. His summers were dedicated to fishing for walleyes with his daughter, son, and friends in Lake Erie. He fished in many tournaments each summer including this past summer, despite his health issues.
Jack was also proud of the time he spent in the service. He was a member of the United States Army from 1969-1976 and loved telling stories about his experiences.
However, Jack's greatest joy came from his time that he spent with his family. He loved going on walks and spending time with his wife of 31 years, Lynn. He cherished his relationships with his daughter Katelynn and his son Chase. He inspired and nurtured his children and grandchildren's love of the outdoors. Hunting and fishing with kids were the most precious times of Jack's life.
We would like to thank all of the family, friends, and neighbors who have supported our family. We would also like to thank all of the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who helped to take care of Jack throughout his journey. Their kindness and compassion were greatly appreciated during such a difficult time.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lynn; his daughter, Katelynn (Kyle) Schutt; son, Chase (Morgan Cravens) Henderman; sisters, MaryAnn Beckham and Holly (Robert) White; grandchildren, Lilly, Jack, and Lucy; nieces, Ashley, Amanda, and Sara; and finally, his beloved dog, Beau.
The family will have a celebration of Jack's life on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 12 pm – 3 pm at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania. The family asks that any donations be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to Duck's Unlimited. Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
