Joe Keifer

Joe Keifer, age 91 passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025. He was the loving caregiver for his wife, Janet, for 12 years until her passing on December 2, 2021 in their home in Temperance, Michigan. Born to Harry and Alta Keifer, Joe graduated from Grand Rapids High School (now Otsego Schools) in 1952. While in high school, Joe lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. In 1951, Joe played in the OHSAA Class B State Championship game and won 52-51.

He then continued his education at The University of Toledo. While pursuing his degree in Education, he played college basketball at UT. He was a starting guard and served as the team captain his senior year. After graduating from The University of Toledo, he went on to teach and coach at his high school alma mater. He taught Government and coached varsity basketball at Monroe Public Schools in Michigan. He won six District, one Regional, and two League titles at Monroe. He developed more than a dozen players who went on to perform in college. He taught at Monroe High School for 36 years until retiring in 1990.

Joe married Janet (White) in 1959 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Toledo. Joe and Janet were married 62 years. Joe was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. Joe and Janet enjoyed vacationing at Ana Maria Island in Florida and Elk Rapids near Traverse City, Michigan. Joe attended many of his grandchildren’s sporting events over the years.

Joe is survived by his sister Bonnie Jordan; daughter Christine (Tim) Csurgo; sons, Timothy Keifer and Jeffery (Ann Marie) Keifer. Sister-in-law, Beth White; grandchildren, Josh (Lauren) Keifer, Ryan (Haley) Keifer; Jake (Haley) Csurgo, Samantha Csurgo, Lauren (Ross) Thomas; Braeden Keifer and Avery Keifer; great- grandchildren, Reagan Keifer, Nolan Keifer and Quinn Csurgo. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Harry and Alta Keifer, two brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be held at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 North Main Street, Sylvania, OH 43560, on Friday, February 28 th, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 12:00 PM.
