Joanne McIlrath

Joanne G. McIlrath, 92, of Toledo, OH, passed away, Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born in Toledo, OH, February 9, 1932, to parents Eugene and Belva (Loman) Butz.

She was employed with the Sylvania City Schools, working primarily in the cafeteria at Northview High School for more than 20 years before retiring in 2005. Her homemade decorated cakes were the BEST. She made all the family cakes, including wedding cakes. She never took a lesson. She taught herself with a book. Joanne was a long and active member of the First Christian Church, Sylvania, where she served as Deaconess, and was a member of Mary Martha.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Sally Dunlap; sisters, Sharon (Rick) Corliss, Doris Butz, and Barbara (Donald) VanPelt; brother-in-law, Steve Nagy, sister-in-law, Joan Butz; many nieces and nephews, and "special grandchildren" Amaury, Jayden, Camila, Mia, and Julian Saavedra. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; Husband Albert A. McIlrath, Jr. who died in 1993; son, Gary A. McIlrath; sisters, Lois Kinshaw and Patricia Nagy; brothers Richard and Raymond Butz; sister-in-law, Nancy Butz; brother-in-law, Joseph Kinshaw; and son-in-law, Daniel (Paul) Dunlap.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, where Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 6, 2025, at 11:00am, Pastor Unholz officiating. Joanne will be laid to rest beside Albert at Toledo Memorial Park.
