Jeffrey S Young

Jeffrey Scott Young, 61, of Sylvania, OH, found peace on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, after a 15 year  battle with cancer. Jeff was born on June 27, 1963, in Toledo, OH to Thomas and Marilyn (Reider) Young. He married Cherryl Kathleen Cassidy on September 9, 1989, and together they raised three children.

Jeff graduated from Sylvania Southview High School in 1981. He continued his education at Columbus Technical Institute where he earned an associate degree in Fire Science. He went on to obtain his paramedic certification from Medical College of Ohio in 1987. Believing there is no better service than the service of your fellow man, he found his true calling with the Sylvania Township fire department as a volunteer firefighter until he was hired full-time in 1988. Jeff retired as a lieutenant in 2018 after 30 years of dedicated service. During his tenure on the department Jeff served as Vice President of Sylvania Firefighters Local 2243.

While working on Life Squad 6, Jeff met Cherryl bringing patients to Flower Hospital Emergency Room where she worked as a nurse. Together they enjoyed camping and traveling. One of their favorite adventures included hauling their camper out west to Yellowstone. He enjoyed sitting around the campfire, collecting and shooting guns, as well as antique and classic cars. Jeff and Cherryl attended Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral where he ushered and served in the Knights of Columbus. Growing up, he enjoyed playing hockey and later went on to coach his son. Jeff remodeled their house to make it into a home and “mecca” for their grandchildren. He loved his animals and spending quality time with his family.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Cherryl; children, Tarra (Chris) Lippert, Kelsey (Robert) Echstenkamper and Dillon (Becca) Young; grandchildren, Lincoln, Scott (affectionately named after his G-Papa) and Louis; father, Dr. Thomas Young; brother, Mark (Julie) Young and dogs Ella and Finn. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Young and brother, Mike and sister-in-law Cindi Young.                                                

Friends may call on the family at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 1pm until 7pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH on Monday December 30, 2024, at 11am. Funeral procession will take place after mass to Toledo Memorial Park for interment. Donations in Jeff’s name may be made to The Victory Center.

His family would like to thank John Stachowiack for years of friendship, remodeling expertise and completing the final home project when Jeff could no longer do the work himself. They would also like to thank his firefighter brothers for bringing him home in style and to all those who visited. He especially enjoyed reminiscing about his time with the fire department.
