Janet Heiman Obituary

Janet "Jan" Ann Heiman, 91 of Sylvania, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 23, 2021, after a period of gradual, declining health. She was born on September 18, 1930, in Tontogany, Ohio to Glen and Anna (Davis) Wade. Jan married Robert Rex Heiman in 1957 in Fostoria, Ohio and together they raised a son and daughter. After graduation from Weston High School in 1948, Janet studied elementary education at BGSU. She worked as a waitress making $.19 cents an hour plus tips to help pay for her education. She declined an offer to design Hallmark cards to pursue her teaching dream. Jan graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1952 with a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree. Her first teaching job was in Fostoria, OH. Some of her proudest moments were receiving letters and compliments, years later from former student's parents thanking Jan for her dedication to teaching and helping those students to succeed in life. Janet was a long-time member of the Sylvania First United Methodist Church which she faithfully attended and also taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir.

Jan and Bob spent over 30 years during the winter months in Bradenton, FL first in "wheel town" and then later in their "coach". They enjoyed the Gulf beaches, "early bird" dinners, bowling, shuffleboard, and playing Skip-Bo cards with their numerous FL friends. They also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Branson, MO. In their earlier years, summers were always spent taking family vacations while pulling a travel trailer all around the country. They especially made many trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C. She also loved fishing, quilting, sewing hundreds of creative outfits, sweatshirts, and pajamas as gifts for all family members. She was known within her FL neighborhood and Oakleaf as the "lady with the beautiful quilted jackets." Her stash of fabrics, sewing supplies and equipment was unequalled.

Her greatest joy was hearing her grandchildren's achievements and attending their sporting events and activities in all kinds of weather and watching from their folding chairs. Bob and Jan were the greatest fans and supporters. She also found time for reading, walking, and watching college sports games with Bob on TV. Jan was a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Robert "Rob" (Tami); daughter, Jennifer "Jenny" (David) Rowlson; grandchildren, Lucas "Luke" (Melinda), Blake (Caitlyn), and Ross Heiman, Kylee (Hussein) Awada; and great-granddaughter, Isla Heiman. Her surviving sisters, Velda, Glenna, and Nancy as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert "Bob" and brother, David.
